Best Independent Coffee House....with REAL food!
European coffee & desserts with Swedish charm AND fresh sandwiches and small plates like LOX & capers on fresh baguette. SVENSKA is unique: it is HARD TO FIND decent fresh food in ANY coffee shop - besides COMMONWEALTH.
Interior : clean and modern. Small but GREAT use of space using small round cafe tables.
I had a small afternoon snack time with my wife on her bday with our daughter. Very relaxing! -

IKEA made a cafe and called it Svenska. They serve Swedish sandwiches and nice lattes, but no meatballs. Plenty of parking in a shared lot, indoor and outdoor seating weather permitting. The coffee will not wow your craft coffee hipsters. But if you're interested in Swedish food and need a midday caffeine boost, this is the spot.
Overall: 4/5 a Birmingham cafe that you're sure to enjoy. -

AMAZING. One of the nicest baristas I've ever met. She was Very hospitable and was kind to my toddler (not all coffee shops are nice to kids) my son was eating a bagel we brought from home on the couch and the barista came over with napkins for us and opened up his napkin and laid it on his lap for him. It was such a sweet gesture and he thought it was so cool.
The muesli was delicious as the coffee was good too! Small seating area but for how cozy & friendly it was it works. Easy free parking. -

I first visited Sweden in Fall 2017 and I've been craving Princess Cake and watching Great British Bake Off hasn't been helping. I was happy to find Svenska via Yelp. It was indeed very Scandinavian - small, cozy but still has an edge of modern!
The princess cake is slightly different - no pink and seems less marzipan-y but captures the same delicateness. Also, their lattes were on-point!
The gal working (Keyko? Keiko?) was really sweet and welcoming.
I'll definitely be back, but for the more savory items like the toasts, sandwiches. -

Adorable cafe with food and pastries tucked into a strip mall in Birmingham.
Svenska was a last minute find when looking for a place to grab a quick lunch, but I am so glad I stopped! This tiny cafe has an awesome selection of pastries, salads and sandwiches. I got a chai latte and a pesto caprese open face sandwich. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The only thing I would change is I would have opted for the larger drink because it was so good! The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. This would be a good place to read a book, do some work or have a one on one meeting.
Quick notes:
-If you visit on a nice day they have outdoor seating.
-Parking is easy and ample (in a parking lot).
